We did it! We came, we installed, we opened, we sat, we packed up, we left!
Late last year myself and nine fellow emerging textile artists started a mission to exhibit in 2016. Together as Tenfold Textile Collective, our first application to First Site Gallery was accepted and we celebrated opening night on 16 August. The title of our exhibition was Background Noise - a concept that resonated strongly with all of us.
As a play on words, 'Background Noise' refers to the development of a textile practice as background to our everyday lives over the past few years. The love of, and interest in, textiles has created enough noise for it to move into the foreground of our lives, whilst other life activities seemingly recede.
We were overwhelmed with the turnout at opening night and had a great time sitting the gallery and talking to the public about our work. By all accounts, for a first exhibition as a group it was a great success. Sending out a big, warm thank you to everyone that helped us put the show together and came to view the exhibition. But most of all thank you to the Tenfold gals. Tara, Morgana, Sarah, Lisa, Rose, Korina, Jem and Ana, you're a wonderful group to work with and extremely dedicated and talented textile artists. I look forward to our next adventure!
